AWARDS AND PRICES
JUDGING STANDARDS
There will be 4 (four) skill levels for competition entries: A carver may enter only in one of the 4 skill levels. Detailed requirements for each skill level is explained in a detail sheet for that skill level:
1. Each category or subcategory or combination of categories with three (3) or more carvings in it, will be judged. A first, second and third place ribbon will be awarded to the best carving in each category judged.
2. All the blue ribbons (first place awards) will be the pool from which the following major awards of the show will be selected.
MAJOR AWARDS
1. BEST OF SHOW - JUNIOR - $100, Plaque and will compete for best of show.
2. RUNNER UP JUNIORS, $50, plaque.
3. BEST OF SHOW - NOVICE - $100, Plaque and will compete for best of show.
4. RUNNER UP NOVICE, $50, plaque.
5. BEST OF SHOW - INTERMEDIATE - $100, Plaque and will compete for best of show. Buckhorn Saloon Award
6. RUNNER UP INTERMEDIATE, $50, plaque.
7. BEST OF SHOW - OPEN - $100, Plaque and will compete for best of show.
8. RUNNER UP OPEN, $50, plaque.

9. PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD – Plaque This award will be selected from all the Woodcarving entries in the competition. All attendees will be provided with a ballot for this purpose.
Creativity: Originality, true to life if applicable, proportions, anatomy, perspective (20 points)
Workmanship: Carving techniques, difficulty of carving, assembly perfection if more than one piece, difficulty of carving if one piece, variety of techniques applied such as burning, detailing, painting (20 points)
Detail: Feathers, hair, folds in clothing, skin wrinkles etc. (20 points)
Quality of Finish: Sanding, polishing, painting etc. (20 points)
Final Representation: Impact of carving, selection of base, habitat if any, decorative value, harmony of the carving as a whole. (20)
A Junior Skill Level – Ages 7 to 17
B Novice Skill Level – Carving 2 years or less
C Intermediate Skill Level – Carved more than 2 years who has won less than 3 Intermediate blue ribbons
D Open Skill Level – Skilled competition carvers
